Terms of service
Last updated: 27 October 2026. These terms apply when you use ReefRadar at reefradar.org (the “site” or “service”). ReefRadar is operated by LAN Media Limited, registered in Scotland (company number SC775540).
What ReefRadar is
ReefRadar is a free web app for exploring dive destinations, browsing marine species research, and keeping a personal dive log and wishlist. It is a planning and reference tool built by diving enthusiasts. It is not a dive operator, training agency, or emergency service.
Not dive or safety advice
Destination notes, depth guides, species lists, and atlas profiles are compiled from open research and third-party sources. They can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong for your specific site, season, or conditions. Wildlife presence is never guaranteed.
You are responsible for your own training, equipment, medical fitness, and decisions underwater. Always follow local law, site rules, and the guidance of a qualified operator who knows the dive. ReefRadar does not replace briefing, certification, or professional judgment.
Accounts and sign-in
You can browse much of the site without an account. If you sign in with email, we send a short-lived code (no password). You must provide a valid email address you control and keep sign-in codes confidential.
You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access via the contact details below.
Your dive log and content
Log entries, wishlist choices, sightings notes, and profile details you enter remain yours. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display that content back to you (including on other devices when you sync) so the service works.
Do not upload or sync content you do not have the right to use, or content that is unlawful, harassing, or infringes someone else’s rights. We may remove content or suspend access if we reasonably believe these terms were breached.
Acceptable use
Use ReefRadar lawfully. You must not attempt to break or overload the site, scrape it in a way that harms other users, probe systems without permission, introduce malicious code, or misuse sign-in or feedback channels.
Automated bulk access to the Marine Atlas or research catalogue is not permitted unless we agree in writing.
Research content and third-party material
Species photos, map tiles, fonts, and many reference texts come from third parties under their own licences. Credits and links appear on profiles, destination panels, and our sources and map credits pages. Your use of that material is also subject to those licences where they apply.
ReefRadar’s own layout, branding, and curated copy are protected by intellectual property law. You may link to public pages for personal or non-commercial reference. Copying, mirroring, or commercial reuse of the catalogue or site assets requires our prior written permission unless the law allows it.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep ReefRadar useful and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Features, data sources, and content may change or be withdrawn without notice. We may update these terms; the date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms, except where mandatory law requires a different process.
Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
To the extent permitted by law, LAN Media Limited is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from diving activities, reliance on species or destination information, sync failures, third-party outages, or your misuse of the service. Our total liability arising from your use of ReefRadar is limited to £50.
Privacy
How we handle email addresses, synced log data, and analytics is set out in our Privacy & your data notice (also linked in the site footer).
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts, except where mandatory consumer law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.
