About this dive site
Deep Indian Ocean action without the Sardine Run circus.
Protea Banks is a submerged reef off KwaZulu-Natal where ragged-tooth sharks, hammerheads and occasional tiger or bull sharks ride the current. Depth and nitrox are standard tools; surface conditions can be sporty. Charter boats from Shelly Beach or Margate run on experience-based profiles.
Most trips target June - November, but wind, swell and current still decide the day's site. Calendar peak is June - November, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Protea Banks day to day, not just the map pin.
