About this dive site
Remote Atlantic pinnacles with pelagic fish, rays and clear blue water.
The Formigas islets and Dollabarat bank lie far offshore from Santa Maria in the Azores, offering advanced boat dives in deep Atlantic water. Manta rays, large pelagic fish and dense schools appear when visibility and weather cooperate. Crossings are long and exposed-this is for experienced divers comfortable with blue water, current and potential surge. Operators run trips when forecasts allow. Protect the reef: no touching, stable buoyancy and respect for any seasonal ray or shark guidance from local scientists.
Shore sites reward repeat dives at the same entry marker; check swell, surf and exit points before you kit up. Calendar peak is June - October, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Azores day to day, not just the map pin.
