About this dive site
Clear lagoon water, reef fish and banded sea kraits on a famous islet.
The Amédée Lighthouse islet lies in the lagoon south of Nouméa, with reef slopes visited by day boats. Visibility is often excellent and the reef holds dense fish life, including anemonefish and larger species on the outer edge. Banded sea kraits are a signature encounter here when conditions suit-observe from a distance and never handle snakes. Current can run on some faces of the reef. Use a local operator, respect lagoon zoning and keep fins clear of live coral.
Most trips target January - December, but wind, swell and current still decide the day's site. Calendar peak is January - December, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows New Caledonia day to day, not just the map pin.
