About this dive site
Controlled sandy-bottom encounters with bull sharks on the Riviera Maya.
Off Playa del Carmen, licensed operators run seasonal dives to sandy areas where bull sharks aggregate in cooler months. The experience is structured: negative entries, staged lines and strict briefing rules reduce risk to divers and sharks. This is not a casual reef dive-appropriate certification, experience and operator compliance are essential. Chumming and handling practices vary; choose reputable centres and never touch sharks. Outside bull-shark season, the same coast offers reef and cenote diving with different briefing requirements.
Most trips target November - March, but wind, swell and current still decide the day's site. Calendar peak is November - March, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Playa del Carmen day to day, not just the map pin.
