About this dive site
A remote atoll where hammerhead schools gather in spring.
Layang Layang rises from the South China Sea as a tiny ring of reef with steep walls and open-ocean exposure. Scalloped hammerheads often stream past in March and April when conditions align. Resort or liveaboard access, strong currents and deep profiles suit experienced divers.
Open-water and liveaboard schedules hinge on swell and current - expect early starts and flexible routing. Calendar peak is March - May, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Layang Layang day to day, not just the map pin.
