About this dive site

Japan's westernmost point, hammerheads and the stone terrace.

Yonaguni Island draws winter scalloped hammerhead schools in open water and curious divers to the submerged rock terraces whose origin still sparks debate. Current and logistics on Japan's western edge require planning with local operators. Clear water and cultural hospitality reward the long trip.

Wall and drift dives need a tide- or current-aware briefing; the same site can feel gentle or brisk on another day. Calendar peak is January - May, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Yonaguni day to day, not just the map pin.
