About this dive site
Green turtles and colourful reef fish on Miyakojima’s southern coast.
Shigira Beach offers a shore-diving option on the south coast of Miyakojima, with coral patches and sandy areas that suit slow observation. A local dive operator records green turtles alongside butterflyfish, anemonefish and damselfish here. This is a different experience from the island’s deeper boat dives and cave routes. Confirm the entry, tide and visibility locally, keep fins above coral and give turtles a clear path to the surface. Sightings depend on the day rather than a guaranteed encounter.
Most trips target January - December, but wind, swell and current still decide the day's site. Calendar peak is January - December, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Miyakojima day to day, not just the map pin.
