About this dive site
Basalt walls and dusky groupers in an island marine protected area.
North of Palermo, Ustica combines volcanic underwater formations with a long-established marine protected area. At Secca della Colombara, the shallow reef gives way to a dramatic basalt wall. Other island routes include Scoglio del Medico, known for groupers and schooling fish. Choose a guided route for your depth qualification, observe the reserve zoning and avoid entering caves without the relevant training and equipment.
Wall and drift dives need a tide- or current-aware briefing; the same site can feel gentle or brisk on another day. Calendar peak is May - December, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Ustica day to day, not just the map pin.
