About this dive site

Borneo atolls with stingless jellyfish lakes and manta cleaning stations.

The Derawan archipelago east of Kalimantan pairs Kakaban’s inland jellyfish lake with Sangalaki manta rays and Maratua channel drifts. Resorts and liveaboards hop between plankton-rich walls and turtle nesting beaches.

Manta cleaning stations need calm positioning - let your guide set the line and keep a respectful distance. Calendar peak is April - October, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Derawan day to day, not just the map pin.
