Mandarinfish near Banda Neira and coral growth over volcanic terrain.
Banda Neira offers two contrasting styles of diving: slow macro searches near the harbour and boat trips to reefs around the volcanic islands. Bluemotion’s house reef is known for mandarinfish near dusk, while the Lava Flow is valued for its coral landscape. These are separate routes within the same destination. Plan around boat traffic and the local monsoon, use a guide for dusk photography and avoid crowding animals or using lights in ways that disrupt natural behaviour.
Go slow, stay off the bottom, and follow a local macro guide - silt and fin kicks ruin shots and habitats. Calendar peak is August - May, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Banda Neira day to day, not just the map pin.
