About this dive site

Dive a smoking underwater hot spring in Eyjafjörður.

Strýtan off Hjalteyri is a rare shallow hydrothermal chimney venting warm water into cold Atlantic seas, coated in marine life unlike anywhere else in Iceland. Drysuits, cold-water experience and a dedicated guide are mandatory. The contrast of hot vent and green water is unforgettable.

Most trips target June - September, but wind, swell and current still decide the day's site. Calendar peak is June - September, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Strýtan day to day, not just the map pin.
