About this dive site
Dusky groupers among granite reefs in the Bonifacio strait.
South of Corsica, the Lavezzi islands sit in the Bouches de Bonifacio reserve, where granite reefs and seagrass lead into deeper rocky habitat. Mérouville is associated with grouper encounters, while nearby routes offer schooling fish and gorgonian-covered drop-offs. These are boat dives exposed to wind and current in the strait. Dive with a knowledgeable local centre, respect reserve moorings and observe groupers without feeding or crowding them.
Most trips target May - December, but wind, swell and current still decide the day's site. Calendar peak is May - December, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Lavezzi Islands day to day, not just the map pin.
