About this dive site
A sobering Red Sea wreck with a heavy human history.
The Salem Express near Safaga sank in 1991 with tragic loss of life; operators expect advanced certification, calm seas and respectful behaviour with agreed penetration limits. Many divers treat it as an exterior memorial dive. Briefings emphasise etiquette as much as navigation.
Match wreck depth - and any penetration - to your training; many famous wrecks are enjoyed from the outside only. Calendar peak is March - November, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Safaga day to day, not just the map pin.
