About this dive site
Reliable juvenile whale sharks in the Gulf of Tadjoura.
Arta Beach and nearby Djibouti waters concentrate plankton where juvenile whale sharks feed close to shore for much of the year. Most encounters are snorkel or shallow scuba from small boats out of Djibouti City. Combine with whale-shark research etiquette, no touching, no blocking mouths.
Whale-shark trips follow plankton and monsoon patterns; local crews pick the site - not the brochure. Calendar peak is November - February, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows Djibouti day to day, not just the map pin.
