About this dive site
Northern barrier canyons near the old Santa Rita Maya site offshore trail.
Santa Rita Canyons run along the outer reef north-east of San Pedro where spur-and-groove topography drops quickly to deep blue water. Eagle rays and turtles use the sand channels while groupers lurk under overhangs. Calm summer seas make this a quieter alternative to the busiest Hol Chan schedules.
Santa Rita Canyons is a north-reef alternative when you want depth without Bacalar Chico logistics; still needs a calm forecast for the run.
