About this dive site

Remote northern reserve where the reef meets Mexico's border.

Bacalar Chico protects the north tip of Ambergris Caye and the Belize–Mexico border reef. Canyon dives such as Rocky Point and Robles cut through spur-and-groove coral with eagle rays, turtles and reef sharks when current runs. Day boats from San Pedro or Sarteneja need calm weather and reserve permits.

Bacalar Chico is a long day from San Pedro or Sarteneja with reserve fees and weather gates; canyon sites such as Rocky Point suit experienced divers when a light current runs. March-June is the usual window before consistent summer wind.
