About this dive site
Blue-water walls and the possibility of scalloped hammerheads in the Bahamas.
San Salvador’s steep underwater terrain attracts divers looking for walls and clear blue-water scenery. Runway 10 is one of the island’s recognised wall dives, with hammerhead sightings an occasional highlight rather than a guarantee. Local boats choose sites for the weather and the group’s experience. Keep a firm recreational depth limit, monitor gas and buoyancy beside the drop-off and avoid drifting into deeper water while watching passing wildlife.
Wall and drift dives need a tide- or current-aware briefing; the same site can feel gentle or brisk on another day. Calendar peak is January - December, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows San Salvador day to day, not just the map pin.
