About this dive site
A coral-cloaked wreck surrounded by extraordinary marine life.
The SS Yongala lies intact on sand off Queensland, encrusted with corals and swarmed by trevally, barracuda, sea snakes and giant grouper. Rays and turtles haunt the deck while macro critters nest in every rivet. Enjoy the wreck from the outside, penetration is prohibited and conditions can be lively.
Match wreck depth - and any penetration - to your training; many famous wrecks are enjoyed from the outside only. Calendar peak is January - December, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows SS Yongala day to day, not just the map pin.
