About this dive site
Grey nurse sharks around an offshore rock with a famous cave.
Fish Rock lies offshore from South West Rocks on the New South Wales coast. Grey nurse sharks aggregate around its gutters and reef, making the open-water scenery worthwhile even without entering the cave. The long tunnel through the rock is a separate overhead dive requiring appropriate experience, equipment and a specific briefing. Choose the route with a local operator for current and swell, and follow the protected-habitat rules: give sharks room and keep their gutters and cave entrances clear.
Most trips target January - December, but wind, swell and current still decide the day's site. Calendar peak is January - December, but skippers still move sites when wind, swell or current change. Book with a crew that knows South West Rocks day to day, not just the map pin.
